Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 25, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Fishing Spot ("Fishing Spot", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Fishing Spot mobile application (the "App"). By using the App, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information we collect
We collect the following categories of information to provide and improve the App:
Information you provide
- Account information. When you sign in, we and our authentication provider process a user identifier and, depending on your sign-in method, your email address or name.
- Catches and content. Fish you log — including species, photos, notes, and the location where a catch was made — are stored so you can keep a personal journal and, where you choose, share catches to the community feed.
- Photos. Images you capture or select for AI fish identification and for your catch log.
Information collected automatically
- Location. With your permission, your approximate or precise location to show nearby spots and nearby catches. See Location data.
- Usage & device data. App interactions, feature usage, screen views, device model, operating system version, and similar diagnostic data, collected through analytics.
- Purchase data. If you subscribe to Fishing Spot Premium, our payments provider processes your subscription status. We do not receive or store your full payment card details.
2. How we use information
- To provide core features — maps, spot discovery, AI fish identification, forecasts, bite times, the catch journal, and the community feed.
- To show you nearby spots and nearby catches based on your location.
- To operate and manage your account and your subscription.
- To understand how the App is used and to improve performance, features, and reliability.
- To maintain the security and integrity of the App and prevent abuse.
- To comply with legal obligations.
3. Location data
Fishing Spot uses location to find spots near you, sort results nearest-first, and power the location-aware community feed. You control location access through your device settings and can revoke it at any time. If you deny location access, some features may be limited or unavailable, but you can still use much of the App.
When you choose to share a catch to the community, the location associated with that catch may be visible to other users. You decide whether to share a catch publicly.
4. Camera & photos
With your permission, the App accesses your camera and photo library so you can capture or select images for AI fish identification and for your catch log. Photos submitted for identification are processed to determine the fish species and its confidence score. Photos you attach to catches are stored so they appear in your journal and, if you choose to share, in the community feed.
5. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as follows:
- With other users, when you choose to post a catch to the community feed (for example, species, photo, approximate location, and time).
- With service providers that operate the App on our behalf, such as hosting, authentication, analytics, and payments providers.
- For legal reasons, when required to comply with applicable law, enforce our terms, or protect the rights, safety, and property of our users or others.
- In a business transfer, such as a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
6. Third-party services
The App relies on trusted third-party services to function. These may include, among others:
- Firebase (Google) — authentication and analytics.
- Cloud hosting & storage — to store catches, photos, and app data.
- App Store / in-app purchase — to process subscriptions.
- Mapping and weather providers — to display maps and forecast data.
These providers process data under their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review them.
7. Data retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the App, comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When you delete your account or specific content, we delete or de-identify the associated information within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law.
8. Your rights & choices
- Access & deletion. You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting us.
- Account deletion. You may delete your account, which removes your associated content as described in Data retention.
- Permissions. You can control location, camera, and photo access at any time in your device settings.
- Analytics. You can limit certain data collection through your device's privacy settings.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA. Contact us to exercise any of these rights.
9. Children's privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it.
10. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Material changes may be communicated through the App. Your continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised Policy.
